The leadership team at Fun Time Early Childhood Academy is pleased to announce that the Board of Directors approved a revision to the organization’s mission statement which now reads: The Mission of Fun Time Early Childhood Academy is to provide safe, quality, affordable education and care for children and parents from low-income working families and to prepare the children for kindergarten, ready to read and ready to learn.
“So much has changed since we opened our doors in 1961, but Fun Time Academy’s commitment to the education and care of our 96 students is constant,” explains Executive Director Barbara Tyrrell. “The addition of ‘and parents’ to our mission statement simply reflects an on-going dimension of our role in ensuring our students enter kindergarten as prepared as possible which continues to include actively engaging their first teachers – their parents. Today, that approach is vastly different than it was 56 years ago as advances in research help us provide early childhood development information and tools to parents that weren’t previously available.”
Nestled in the heart of Naples, at 12th Street North, Fun Time Early Childhood Academy is a nonprofit organization that first opened its doors in 1961 as part of the Old Carver School under Alma Cambridge.
Five decades later, the school continues to break barriers and develop engaging ways to help students from low-income working families prepare for the next steps in their educational process and lives. The research-based, creative curriculum is designed specifically to meet the needs of 2-5 year olds and their parents, ensuring graduates are deemed as performing at and above kindergarten readiness levels by the Florida Department of Education.
Since 1961, 2,240 Fun Time Academy graduates have entered the Collier County School System ready to read and ready to learn. For more information on Fun Time Early Childhood Academy, please call 239.261.8284, or visit www.FunTimeAcademy.org.
